Celebrating 25 Years
of Young Leaders
NSSGA CELEBRATED 25 YEARS of the
Young Leaders Annual Meeting at the
Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass in Chandler, Ariz. Industry magnates imparted
leadership advice to a record crowd of
more than 200 people.
"Given our lineup of speakers and the
great attendance, I cannot think of a better way to celebrate 25 years of this amazing group," said Franz Peters, who took
over as chairman of the Young Leaders
Steering Committee at the April meeting.
"We were fortunate that so many alumni
were able to join us for a reunion year,
and I think we had an incredible panel
of speakers and events."
Peters, of Lehigh Hanson, also thanked
immediate past-chair Marc Kmec, from
Martin Marietta, for his leadership and
direction for an event that offered networking and community service opportunities.
Attendees headed to the Wellington
Ranch that serves the local Native
American community. In under two and
a half hours, Young Leaders planted
crops and built everything needed for
the farm to grow herbs and vegetables
for the community.
Joel Galassini of CEMEX received the
Mark S. Walsh award, sponsored by Rock
Products. Walsh was a member of the
Young Leaders steering committee and
helped set the direction and growth of the
group before he passed away in 1999. The
award is presented annually to a member
of the group who exemplifies professionalism and enthusiasm for Young Leaders.
Peters said that he and the Young
Leaders Steering Committee are aiming
to make next year's Annual Meeting the
best yet. It will be held at the Hilton
La Jolla Torrey Pines in La Jolla, Calif.,
Galassini, Kmec and Josephine Smith, Rock Products associate editor.
