our quarry community are one in
the same," said Josh Hayden, quarry
manager. "We believe strongly that
it is our duty to help our fellow
citizens, employees and neighbors."
Community leaders and elected officials recognized the ways that the
quarry team works hand-in-hand with
local stakeholders to craft programs
that meet the community's needs
and make a real impact. "We applaud
Stringtown Quarry for its hard work
and for going above and beyond to
make a positive, lasting impact in the
community," Hayden added.
More Than "Good Neighbors"
Employees at Stringtown Quarry
view giving back to their local community as a critical part of their
mission. The quarry's annual "Good
Neighbors" volunteer event is one
of the operation's major initiatives..
Employees donate their time and
talents to provide much-needed
repairs and upgrades to roads, parks

and other community fixtures. In
2017, over 280 volunteer hours went
towards beautifying community
spaces that residents can be proud
to use. The quarry also donated 5,000
tons of road base to build a new decorative walking bridge for the community to enjoy.
"Through this event, not only did
we solidify a lasting partnership with
our community, but each employee
developed a lasting sense of pride and
civic connection," said Mark Miller,
director of land and environment for
LafargeHolcim's Texas and Louisiana
region. "This was indeed the best and
most meaningful corporate community outreach event I have been a
part of."
Education in Focus
Miller explained that education is
a cornerstone of Stringtown Quarry's
community outreach programs. The
operation hosts frequent tours and
field trips to educate residents about
the quarry, rocks and minerals and

the history it shares with the community. Last year, Stringtown Quarry
participated in Atoka County's Natural
History Day, a community event
focusing on the area's natural history attended by over 500 students
and their parents. The operation provided a booth with prizes and educational materials, plus large equipment
for demonstration.
Along with educating members of
the public, Stringtown also equips
its employees to be good community
partners through training and guidance. "Giving back to the community is an embedded value within
our local business," said Lee Carroll,
LafargeHolcim Texas-Louisiana
region vice president. "The Atoka
Natural History day was a huge success benefiting the education of
young minds and reinforcing the
longstanding connection between
our quarry family and our extended
Stringtown family."
