Learning What to Expect from
the Trump Administration
More than 60 people learned how
their operations may be impacted by
the policies of the Trump administration and Congress in 2017.
NSSSGA staff met with the
Environmental Subcommittee and
focused on the impacts of President
Trump's early executive orders,
including ones that froze new regulations and asked EPA to reconsider
the damaging Waters of the U.S. rule.
Yet, the benefits of these orders have
limits given the slow processes of
confirming Trump appointees, the
courts and Congress itself. Still, the
Trump Administration promises to be
much more friendly towards business
and development with few new rules
expected. So committee members were
encouraged to continue to lead when
it comes to advocacy and continue
to educate their elected officials on

SAND & GRAVEL REVIEW, May/June 2017
Growing Markets and
Membership for Producers
of Pulverized Minerals
Companies in the Pulverized Minerals
Division (PMD) of NSSGA's membership discussed areas of opportunity
for their section of the aggregates
industry. Concrete filler and rock dust
treatment have been common uses for
pulverized minerals for years, though
new technology frequently opens new
markets for products like calcium carbonate - including new requirements
for pulverized minerals in animal
feed. The group explored those new
and emerging markets in addition to
ways to attract new PMD members.
Young Leaders Plan for
Throughout the Year
The mission of NSSGA's Young Leaders
group is to "... provide a forum for
future stone, sand and gravel industry
leaders 40 years of age and younger to
meet others, exchange ideas, discuss
areas of mutual interest, address and
develop industry positions, and develop
leadership and management skills
which will help them and their companies become more successful in the
aggregates industry." To build on that
mission, the YL Steering Committee
discussed exploring quarterly webinars
on leadership to provide more opportunities throughout the year for engagement and professional networking.
The Steering Committee also put the
finishing touches on the 25th anniversary Annual Meeting, held, April 19-22
in Chandler, Ariz. Check the July/
August edition of REVIEW magazine
for a full report on what is expected
to be an event to remember.
