Stone, Sand and Gravel REVIEW - May/June 2017 - 29
By Patrick Dunne,
NSSGA Communications Director
BRAD ALLEN, A PLANT MANAGER
with the Anchor Stone company, was
excited just to be in Las Vegas for
NSSGA's Annual Convention and the
2017 CONEXPO-CON/AGG trade show.
He was even happier to be there
when his ticket was picked to win the
keys to a 2017 Mercedes-Benz C300
coupe, valued at $42,650.
"It was great winning, but having
the guys I work with there made it
ten times better. I think they were
more excited than I was," he said. A
coworker had won a $1,000 gift card
to Cabela's, and Allen thought he was
lucky. "I was called up on stage at the
end, and I asked what exactly happens now? Someone told me 'This is
where it gets exciting!'"
Allen said he and his wife were
thrilled with the cash value and plan
to pay bills and prepare for the future.
"We've got two kids in college and one
in high school, so this was a great
time to win!"
He thanked his company for allowing employees to travel to NSSGA
events and CONEXPO-Con/Agg conferences. He started working for
Anchor Stone 20 years ago, and
started the day after he was out of the
U.S. Marine Corps. He manages the
Volentine Sand Plant on the Arkansas
River just south of Tulsa, Okla., where
the company is headquartered.
"Anchor Stone is a great company;
top-down. I've been with them for 20
years and you're not just a number.
Everyone pretty much knows your
name and I've really liked working
here," he said.
Tom Snyder, president of Anchor
Stone, said that he has supported
ROCKPAC for as long as he can remember because of the value the PAC
provides to his operation. "We're a
medium sized company and we really
need political groups in D.C. to help
our industry. Especially when it comes
to environmental regulations, mine
safety and health issues or highway
funding. NSSGA has always done a
great job for us," he said.
The 2017 ROCKPAC annual fundraiser broke records in Las Vegas with
high attendance, an average donation of $1,074.05 and live entertainment from voice impressionist Kenton
Weaver and the GoodTimes Band.
